This morning the telephone rang at 5:45 in the morning. Why is my phone ringing this early? Wait, that’s not my cellphone, that’s an actual telephone. I don’t have a phone in my room. Where am I? I answered. Hello? No one responded. What is going on? Then it hit me. I was in a hotel room. That was my wake-up call. It was time to get up and get ready for my flight, because I was going HOME!!!! As in, HOME FOR CHRISTMAS!!!! Meaning, THE SEMESTER IS OVER!!!!!! Gosh I have waited so long for this. Finally, it’s here. As I write this I’m sitting snuggled on my couch, my dog at my feet, enjoying the smell of our fresh Christmas tree. I just love home.

While I was sitting on the plane this morning, I started thinking about all the traveling I’ve done throughout college. Let’s just say a lot. So much that I’ve basically memorized the whole safety shpeel (or shpeal, or shpiel, or any other way you think it should be spelled- I’m open to suggestions) you hear before you take off. Considering there are lots of people traveling for Christmas this year, I figured I’d give my own rendition of the safety shpeel/shpeal/shpiel/etc. for any of you readers taking a trip this year.

First, always have some good tunes to keep you occupied. A book doesn’t hurt either.

They tell you to stay buckled if you’re in your seat. And don’t worry, in case you forget, just look forward. It’s right in front of your face.

Find the nearest exit. Keep in mind it might be behind you.

If you’re worried about drowning, don’t be. They’ve got you covered.

Bringing your own drink is never a bad idea.

If your forget, no sweat. You can enjoy some complimentary bubbly from the flight attendant. (It’s ginger ale, people.)

Oh, and some peanuts.

After all that, just sit back, relax, and enjoy the view! You are now a professional flyer.

Oh wait, one more thing. You’ve always gotta sing when you’re coming in to land….
